THE CHÂTEAU

histoire

Château Haut-Macô's History.

"Our grapes and our wines are our greatest passion of all, with patience and love, from one vintage to the next."

Anne et Hugues Mallet

Château Haut-Macô has been a family business for four generations. It's set in the village of Tauriac, in the wine-producing region of Côtes de Bourg, to the north of Bordeaux. This is a particularly favourable area for viticulture.

Since the late 19th century, our family has worked to develop these vineyards which today are highly regarded by professional and amateur wine connoisseurs. The first two generations established the vineyard mainly with Château Haut-Macô, the family's original label, and Château les Bascauts, an enclave or "island" of vines adjacent to the Haut-Macô vineyard.

"To keep our soul, to respect our terroir and our history..."

Anne et Hugues Mallet

Then the Domaine de Lilotte estate was added in the 1970s, the Château Robert vineyard was purchased in the 1980s, and the latest acquisition, Château Govain, was made in 2013. Last but by no means least, the third generation, Jean and Bernard Mallet, has given it new life by making a significant investment in the production plant. The vinification cellars (1994) and ageing cellars (1991) constitute a solid base for the production of high quality wines on a regular basis.

Each year, the brothers pursue their labour of love to bring out the best of our terroir's great potential.

A whole team of professionals is involved each year in the birth of the new Château Haut-Macô wine. We have a cellar master, a master œnologist who works alongside us on the wine-making. There are also three vineyard workers and ten seasonal helpers who carry out the various tasks in the vineyards.
